QUITE CONTRARY: A GHOST STORY OF CREATION

Quite Contrary Reading, April 2025.

Marlie at Mary Wollstonecraft’s grave on a research trip in Summer 2024.

"A good ghost writer can do wonders…”

A gothic fantasy reimagining of the life of Mary Shelley, the 18-year-old author of Frankenstein, and her haunting relationship with a legendary mother she never knew. Both darkly funny and deeply poignant, in Quite Contrary twisting timelines form a multigenerational tale about love, creation, and the literal and literary ghosts that possess us all.

Quite Contrary was most recently presented at an invited reading at Princeton’s Lewis Center for the Arts in April 2025.
